I'm just about ready to start building on my new motor for my 75 dodge dart 4 door custom and was wondering everyone's opinion. I would like to build a torquey tire smoker. something that really pounds the pavement. I need at least 1 new rod since the motor i bought through a rod cap. Block needs overbored and was wondering if 40 over is good or if going larger is worth it for performance. I'm already working on the head and it is going to be shave .100. im getting ready to start the ford 8.8 axle install not sure what gears will work best with the engine till its done. Im running a set of 225-45r17 sumitimo htr+ all around on 17 inch chrysler 300 steel wheels. Need ideas on cam and carb already have a super six manifold but no linkage or carb. Step by step ideas would be great im new to engine building. Budget is kind low maybe $1000 over a few months. Im not in a hurry to get it finished by an means just wanna do it right the first time and really pound the pavement. Also wondering how much nitrous can run safely. Car is going to be a mostly weekend driver. Thanks Cory |

Don't bump. Ask a question. You may then get an answer. Whether it's an enlightened answer or not is debatable, but it's better than <bump>. Whether you are then enlightened by the responses you receive is also debatable, but this is the best course of action aside from actually doing research and learning from past posts. I would encourage you to seek out the writings of David Vizard in terms of engine building and nitrous oxide use. |

If you are going to use N2O on the engine, build it with strong pistons and have a seperate fuel system for the NOS. DD |

What would a good 40 over piston be and is a stock rod strong enuff to support the NOS? Thnks |

The rod will be fine, I would suggest some rod bolts from ARP (summit) as well as a full balance of the internals. The pistons will probably take a 100shot though I would consider a set of forged for further insurance. Head studs will be something else to consider. |

Any forged piston like the old TRW 2125F (discontinued) or a custom made piston is my first chouce. See this link My next choice is a cast piston with the steel expansion struts, Enginetech make a pretty good one. The stock con rods are fine, just inspect them carefully for off-centered pin holes and have them reconditioned. DD |
