I just read that in 1975 A-833 overdrives were first made for A bodies and that in that same year all A/B body non-overdrive A-833's were discontinued. This would seem to mean that ANY 1976 and up A-833 for A bodies or B bodies is an overdrive transmission. (Don't know where B ends and E begins.) Am I missing something? Thanks PS. What is a G/RG block? |

G/RG Block is a slant six... 'G' is a 170 (short deck) RG- is a 198/225 (tall deck) E is any 1970-1974 Barracuda/Challenger... B is Chargers, Satellites, Coronets, 78-79 Magnum, 68-75 Road Runner, Belverdere, GTX, 77-78 Monaco (not royal monaco), 75-79 cordoba, 75-78 Fury Only a few are going to have a 4 speed transmission as the muscle cars waved bye bye in 1974... and most were equipped as family barges (i.e 318/A904... or 400/727)... Yes, any 1976-1980 A-833 for Dart/Valiant variants, and Aspen Volare variants will be OD... -D.Idiot |

a couple of possibilities; The trans has been swapped in the last 32 years which means it could be either OD or non OD; I've had both versions of the cast iron transmission. The OD came in both alum and C.I. (I had a cast iron 833 OD out of an early 80s van) |

unless you can visually inspect it and see if it's stock, and the front shift toggle is pointing 'down' and the reverse and 1-2 shift toggles are pointing up when bolted to the mechanism... then it could be anything swapped under there... I just freaked out a chevy guy at the shop with my '67... it still has the column shift lever for the A904... but I swapped in an A-230... and have a 3spd floor shifter... I just told him I have a 3-spd car... he's still trying to figure whether I meant 3spd manual or auto.... pictures and a saturday drive are 9/10ths of the fun of getting the right part to do the job... -D.Idiot |
