Post subject:  A833 OD - Chevy vs Mopar

Does anybody have experience with putting (or trying to put) an A833 from like an 80-85 Chevy pickup into an A body?

Possible? Impossible? Difficult?

Thanks

:? A Chevy A-833???? :? Until I googled it, I had never heard of it. Are the Chrysler ones getting that hard to find that you would want to adapt one in your vehicle?

I see quite a few for V-8 engines, but almost nothing for /6. And the ones I find for /6 are bare trannies - no bell housing, no linkage, no shifter, etc.

And there is the fact that I myself live in an anti-Mopar region, so yards are all Chevy and Ford - to say nothing of even 1980,s stuff being considered to ancient to keep around.

I may have found one in California for $525.

Thanks.

Post subject:  ross, I'd sell you the whole setup for that!

Ross,
I'd sell you a good rebuilt tranny, bell, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, TOB and fork for $525 plus shipping... Parts beadblasted and clearcoated.

Hmmm. $525 PLUS shipping. I'm going to have trouble scraping together the money to pay $525 INCLUDING shipping and will do that only because I absolutely have to - if I can at all.

Thanks

The /6 bellhousing is the easier/cheaper one to find in my experience, but the A-833 O.D. transmission behind either a V-8 or /6 is the same. The linkage will be tougher to find, but they're out there and are on eBay every so often- there's one on eBay in Eau Claire, WI for $250.

BTW, I wouldn't pay more than $400 tops for a complete setup. I picked up a complete BH, pans, shifter, and linkage for $45 from a salvage yard, then found an F-body (same as A-body) trans for $100 and rebuilt it, so unless it's already been rebuilt and everythign is cleaned up and ready to install, keep looking...shipping is going to cost you $100 alone for just the trans. Keep scouriong craigslist in your area and post a wanted ad.

Not worth the effort to convert it to work in a Mopar. Bolt pattern and tailhousing are very different.

Have you got one that's not so pretty that I might be able to afford?

Thanks

Post subject:  Ross, it would be bettr for InThePink to get you one

HI Ross,

It would be better for InThePink get you a setup. I hadn't realized you wanted to spend a year crawling around junkyards unbolting yours. When you get all the parts for $400 in show condition lemme know. What I was proposing was a "new" 833 setup delivered to your door. The parts cost rebuild the 833 including 308 berarings fore and aft, new IBR, reverse detent ball and spring, and new synchronizers and forks was over $120. Comp Plus shifter, handle, rods, and Hurst Pistol Grip was about $150. New fork, new TOB, new B+B 10" clutch and pressure plate, resurfaced and balanced flywheel, front and bottom dust shields, stainless bolts...all just out of a Fall '08 show winner. Probably best for me to let someone closer who can see it get it. Thanks for asking, though.

A year crawling around is all I ever wanted. Come one! I do what I can afford. As for that, you didn't say how much it would add to the $525 (not $400) you want for the transmission, to ship it here, nor did you reply whether it had linkage and shifter.

If you don't have a less polished trans for less, so be it. But I don't see any need to get abusive just because I can't afford polish. I'd love to have a shiny new trans, but there are people who have withheld thousands of dollars of mine for over a year and I just can't swing it.

Thanks

Guys, please. There's no need to get worked up over this. An offer was made, the offer was declined; let it go at that.
