I have a dead stock 85 pickup with a 225 and an OD 833. It runs and starts good enough, but has a few issues I want to start working on. First is the complete lack of response to throttle anywhere past just being cracked open. Basically, it makes the same more power with light throttle application than having your foot in it. Any thoughts on this? I have a super six set up and a Dutra set up I would like to put on this truck. However, I am not sure what to do with the emissions stuff --- vacuum lines and signal wires. Can is simply remove these things, get rid of the air pump, etc? |

I've got an 87 i/2 ton identically equipped. First thing i did was convert the lean burn to the Chrysler electronic ignition system. This is an easy and fairly cheap modification that really improves starting and overall driveability. I had an old wiring harness on hand from a Duster i am big blocking and all i had to buy was the ballast resistor and ICM. Next i removed all the emission stuff except the pcv including and especially the air pump. It still has the one barrel and aside from using oil runs perfect. I have a super six set up including a brand NEW holly 2v which i purchased from SlantSixDan who makes frequent and valuable posts to this site. It has been my experience that 99% of the rebuilt carbs available at your local Auto Zone are junk. Best to rebuild yours if you suspect problems with the carb. Good luck. Dean |
