This is my first /6 so I'm new to the issues.

Car is a 71 swinger, 198/6.

The oil level is fine, but the low oil light keeps coming on every time I go around a bend or pitch up or down a grade or slope or when i come to a stop.

Is there a level float somewhere or is my pressure down?

I change the oil frequently and it's been a couple months since the last o/c.

I added a half quart about a month ago when it started doing it when the light came on on a freeway on ramp.
At that time the light went out, but it has now been doing it more frequently every time I drive it but the oil level looks good.

Any suggestions?

how many quarts are you putting into your engine at oil changes?

This what you describe is usually caused by either faulty insulation somewhere along the oil pressure sender wire, or an overly-alarmist oil pressure sender. The light turns on when the wire is grounded. If there's a break in the insulation, then the wire can ground out somewhere along its length and turn on the light. The sender is screwed into the rear end of the oil pump, just barely visible under and to the rear of the oil filter. It's easy to replace if you have the special socket for it. Inspect the wire carefully, and if it's in good shape, go ahead and replace the sender.

You will probably also want to service your oil pressure regulator valve as described in these two threads: thread 1, thread 2. It could be stuck partially open, bleeding off oil pressure. And for future reference, see this post and the links from it for info on oil filter selection.

Be sure also that you're using the correct grade of engine oil. If your engine is in basically good shape, 10w30 is a good choice. If it's a little on the worn side, 15w40 is better.

Thanks for the quick responses.

I'll read up on the links, and I use 5 quarts with filter.

That takes me right to the full mark.
