How much can I expect to pay for a 5 terminal, "Orange Box" module? Just tuned up my '79 van, and noticed the box is starting to "bleed". I just installed a Blaster 2 coil, 8mm plug wires, NGK UR4 plugs, Bluestrak cap, and the good Napa rotor. I can feel a little better performance and idle quality, but I want to make sure the box is'nt crapping out on me. Also, I have 5 wires going to the ballast resistor, (4 terminal). Is it possible to (easily) convert this to single ballast? I'd like to install the one I got with my new coil, but it is only a single, 2 terminal resistor. Thanks for all the help you all have given me! ![]() |

I don't know about the module, but I just installed a pertronix flame thrower coil, and I had to by pass the ballast resistor. I don't know if you have to or not, but you can Read This |

The Mopar orange box is inexpensive (~$42 @ Jegs), but I believe they're all foriegn made now; mine lasted about 2K mi. The Mopar chrome boxes (~$66 @ Jegs) I looked at were also foriegn made and looked rather sloppily put together (heatsink on a little crooked), so I bought a top-of-the-line NAPA (~$65) and have had no problems with it since. |

Gah! No orange boxes! Boxes of oranges yes, but no orange ignition boxes. Go buy Standard Motor Products LX101. $43.79 at rockauto.com. This is a high quality ignition box unlike the orange boxes produced for at least the past 5 years. 4-pin modules superseded the 5-pin modules years ago. |

The origional voltage regulator on my car oozed gooey crap before I got it. It was replaced with one that almost fried my batt. ![]() I have no idea what makes them do this. I doubt these are related, but just putting in my info. |

Sounds like the box is overheating or is of poor quality. Can you measure the voltage between the coil + terminal and ground with the engine running? Is the coil stock? |

NAPA sells both a cheaper and a more expensive box when last I looked. I hope the more expensive to be more reliable; in the past I've been *told* that the top-of-the-line boxes carried a lifetime warranty and exchanged a dead (Ford) one under it, but since then (different) NAPA guys claimed it has no warranty. If the potting is melting, something inside the box is overheating and the box is destined to fail. |

where can I get a wiring harness to convert my points ignition to electronic?I have the electronic distributor, and the 4-pin lx101 is on it's way. Will the 5-pin harness plug into it? I can order one from Jegs. |
