I have a 72 demon 225 and i'm having a problem. No power, anywhere. I've replaced cables, (grounds and hot), resistor, relay, fusible link......still nothing. Is there another ground I'm missing or another relay or fuse? Is there a magical incantation I must utter? HELP!!! |

Bad battery? Dead (no charge) battery? Will the motor crank if you bridge the terminals on the starter? |

I'm about to check the ammeter now, I'll letcha know....this has been a thorn in my side....and it's like a million degrees outside....wish me luck! |

...here's a bit more info as to my problem. I put the key in, turn it.....nothing. No lights, no wipers, no horn......nothing. I've replaced the negative battery cable, including the ground to the radiator support. I've cleaned the positive cable from the battery to the relay and from the relay to the starter. All connections therein are good. I've eliminated the fusible link from the bulkhead and am currently running a 16ga. wire in it's place. I've pulled the instrument cluster and checked the connections behind them, including the ammeter....all are making clean contact. I don't know the condition of the battery currently, as i have no tester here, but that is irrelevant, as i'm jumping from my jeep battery, which has more than enough output......no power. Is there a frame ground that i cant find? Is there something behind the bulkhead?? I'm really getting frustrated. I'm about to invest in some 01ga cable and jump it directly from a nuclear substation....... |

Is there power at the battery terminal of the alternator when the battery is connected? If not then the ammeter or the associated wiring is open. |

Josh, I don't have a tester of any sort with me currently (pun intended), but i seriously doubt there's anything, as I can't even get headlights to come on...... |

Well, you need at least a test light. Make one with an instrument light bulb is you have to. Again, if there is no power at the big terminal on the back of the alternator the ammeter or it's wiring are open. |

Just take the two terminals that go into the ammeter and bolt them together, then try everything. Make sure they don't touch ground... Bad/shorted battery could be it too. Lou |
