When I go to start my car it makes a clicking sound like a bad connection or dead battery. So I leave the key in the start position and put a screwdriver on the solenoid and it starts like normal. Does this mean my ignition switch is bad? Is it bad to start it this way? |

Probably a bad starter relay. |

That 'click', can be a few things... Sometimes Dead Battery (you'd know... no power... no key in buzzer) (sometimes very low battery... you have power but the starter won't go) Usually it's the relay... Depending on whether you have an OEM starter or a yesteryear replacement it might be that too(tired original, old remanf that has seen it's time....) good luck, -D.Idiot |

Check the voltage at the battery. Then check the voltage all along the starter circuit. I suspect the starter relay, but it might be a voltage loss somewhere, or just a bad battery. I don't think the ignition switch will do this to you, but you never know. There are only a few connections between the battery and the starter motor. It should not be too hard to track down. See if the nuts on the starter relay are tight. Be carefull when tightening them that you don;t touch the chasis with the wrench. You will need a clean pair of undies if you do. SAm |

Thanks for the help. It was the starter relay. Now it starts better than ever. Tomorrow I start on the Holley 350 swap. |
