Post subject:  Valve lash theory

Considering I am working on a reasonably healthy 49K slant engine circa '72....can I assume that the cylinders that will benefit the MOST from a valve lash are the cylinders that affect the smoothness of idle quality the LEAST when pulling sparkplug wires. just to clarify, some cylinders will cause a major shake/skip when spark is removed (I would consider them major players) but some are barely noticeable when removing spark. Does this theory fly?? Thanks, nico

The theory is sound only if those cylinder not pulling their own weight are misfiring due to their valves being held open from a deficit of lash.

Josh is right, but it doesn't bear worrying about which cylinders will benefit more or less than which other cylinders from correct valve lash. Just adjust all the valves correctly — here's the valve adjustment procedure.
