I just pulled the 1979 slant out of my van and installed a reman from a 1963 valiant. It runs good but does not seem to have the power my old engine once had. I reused all the original intake and electronic ignition, I stayed with the carb that came on the 1963 motor,(it seems to run way better with this one). I was just wondering what is some tricks to get some more nuts out of these engines? I assume getting a 2 barrel intake and carb, or anything else? It is a daily driver so I dont want to compromise the fuel millage or dependibility to much. |

what motor was in the van originally? was it the same size as the replacement motor? if the valiant had a 225 and the van had a 292 or something larger that could explain the slight power loss, but theres also that chance that the other car had a 318. but thats just my guess/off the top of my head. was the original van bored out? or had any machining done to it? |

Run a compression test on the new engine and tell us the readings. Did you do a final valve lash adjustment after getting it running? DD |

Could be a retarded cam due to installation or a regrind without enough advance. |

Start with the basics- what's your ignition timing? |
