Hey Doc,

Thanks for that pic of the heater core box assembly... I finally got off my lazy but and fixed my heater core... she's runnin' as dry and cool as can be!!!!!

I do have a bit of bad news tho... while fixing the heater core... I discovered that my passenger floor board is shot a long with my driver side one... thankfully tho., the holes aren't too big so the two road signs sitting in my garage will become very handy as soon as I find time to put them in...

Later,

Mike

Great work Mike,
It is always nice to get a project finished. (now you can get to the next one on the list!)
As for the floor repair, just be sure to scrape clean as much rust as you can and then treat the area with some rust conversion paint before slapping down the replacement metal pieces.
I make-up cardboard "templates" to cut the metal by, speeds-up the amount of in the car fitting time.

Have you ever used POR-15? I've used both rust converter and POR-15 over the last ten years or so and have had much better luck with the POR-15, especially if the area is likely to get wet again. POR-15 is a very hard sealing paint (not a rust converter) that will seal out both oxygen and moisture. Like the converter you only have to remove the "loose" rust; no oxygen no more rust. www.porcan.com.

I agree with Bob on the POR-15.. crazy stuff.. works great.. once you use the stuff you start walking around the garage looking for stuff to paint.. and telling your friends about it to the point people start saying you sound like a comercial.. The stuff seems tougher than powder coat, looks like it was sprayed when it was brushed.. Once you get it on your skin, it pretty much needs to wear off.. Buy small quantities, because it goes far and has a limited shelf life especially in hummid areas.. follow the directions, and you'll be amazed.. Oh, for some reason the www.por-15.com has more products listed than the www.porcan.com site, including a sterling silver top coat!

I am sold on the POR products. Just about the hole bottom of my Barracuda is coated with it POR-15. I have used it on my truck which see beach & winter duty and painted my bulked with it. Stuff is fantastic.

I am also using the POR-20 on my headers and it has held up better than any hi-temp paint I have ever used. In the engine picture below the headers have about 10K miles on them now. I have touched them up a couple of times under the car where they are exposed to road blast but looks as good as cermic coating and is a hole bunch cheaper.

The engine is also painted with POR's Hemi Orange engine paint. Not a bit of it flaking and no rust showing through.

Thanks for the post, good looking SL6 set-up.
We are using your post to try to figure-out why some PICs from other sites do not display here.
You did everything right on your post, we think some ISP sites like Geocities have some kind of filter in place take keep us out when we go for the image. Hopefully we can find a fix.
Alway use the URL Link and the Image fields because it "show us the way" to where the image is kept.

Those geo guys are pretty tricky, see how they hit you with their banner ad when you go to the link? If you highlight the URL address and hit return again, you get *your* image!

Here at work clicking on the link to the image or when I put the path in the "Optional Image URL" I only get image no banner. I only see the geocities banner when I go to the home page below.

Opps, on second look, the "banner ad" is a Yahoo / Geo "Page can not be displayed" message. (with ads all over it)
Do other viewers see this?

I get Dave's page when I click on the link in his last post. I get the "page can not be displayed" message when I click on his link in his previous message.

Well the previous post did worked the second time I tried it!(?)
Maybe because it had already been loaded into my computer(?). It did load very quickly each time after the first time which was relatively slow.

I only get 1/4 of the picture when I go to the site. Looks to me like a damaged file or a problem with the GeoCities server.

I figured it out, that image is a real big file size. (666K) It trimmed down and compressed to 35K so now it should just pop right-up.
Nice looking engine compartment Dave.
Note the big thick extra ribs on the block, what dash number is on that block?

Doug,

I realized after I posted this it was the "big" version of the picture. I will pay attention to that in the future.

Also, if people access my WEB page via dial up it's real slow loading for the same reason (that's why I have the pictures at a lower resolution).

Another thing about Geocities is the "free" WEB page offer has a catch, they limit the total monthly bytes that can be down loaded and they monitor it on bit rate basis selectively blocking access to the site to keep the monthly total in limits. A couple or three people accessing the site at close to the same time will exceed the bit rate and shut the site down for an hour or two. The smaller images will help this too.

I do not know what the block came from. It's a late 70's cast crank, small plug motor. The original engine had been built up quite bit by the PO but he lunched it when the oil pump failed. This was a junk yard motor he dropped in. Unfortunately he did not keep the big valve ported head. I did a "back yard" re-build on the bottom end, shaved the head, added the Comp Cam, offy, 390 Holley and headers. The car is currently tucked away for the winter in a neighbors garage so I do not know when I can look for block numbers.

I hope to have a big valve ported head to put on it this spring.
