Dan is right, the group cam buy is the way to go,however...,I didn't even know about this site until after my build. That being said I'm running the 264H in my slant van and it just PULLS and keeps PULLING,very happy with the comp setup.Knowing what I think I know now and the money was still in my pocket,I'd be ordering from Erson and going mech lifter, but hey water(money)under the bridge

My Comp 264 ate 2 oil pump drive gears....otherwise it was OK

I like my Erson 280 much better.

Thanks guys. I have a chance to get a 264 for $100 but it doesnt come with lifters. Is it a fairly "tame" cam? I plan on doin a rebuild some day and would do things like 2 bbl and Dutra Duals. Are the specs of the 264 or the closest Erson cam be good for a build like that?

Yes it's a tame cam, that likes a bit more rev than it's little brother the 252... if you decided on more carb and more rear gearing... it would not be my first choice....

Ok thanks. This is my daily driver through the summer so if/when I do a rebuild it will be a mostly stock motor I think. Mileage is very important too and I dont know what the cam will do with that. It will get no strip time. Just want a dependable good running slant. :)

I don't know what sort of problems the other guys had with the 264. But in my car it was in over 10 years with no problems, and I got it to run 15.7's in the 1/4. I also got in the 19 mpg range with it on the hwy.

Can I use a new set of stock lifters with this?

Yes, any new mopar solid lifter (.904 diameter) will work.

thanks Doc. What do you think about this cam? It will be a slighty modded slant like head ported by me(maybe planed), 2 bbl, and duals. I hear some oil pump gear problems. I might be able to get the cam cheaper but dont want to buy if it's no good. thanks again.

I never liked the way Comp cams "lashed" (short lash ramps) but they work fine once you get the lash set right.
The idle will be rougher then a stock cam.
A case hardened OP gear would be a good investment.

What do you mean when you say you never liked the way Comp cams "lashed"? (I have never done this before, but want to learn)
When you are setting the lash, it is more difficult to do than other cams? I wouldn't mind a rougher idle, I like the way that sounds.
Where do I get a hardened OP gear?
I am leaning toward this cam because it is new yet 1/2 the price of others. thanks again.

The clearance ramp is short, I think Comp calls-out .012 lash but the cam idles better as you loosen-up the lash, especially on the exhaust valves.
Once you get to around .016, you run-out of lash ramp and any looser starts to "tick".

I take the Erson grinds out to .022 lash before they start ticking.

Send me a PM for the case hardened oil pump drive gear, I still have a few.
