Post subject:  Fuse Box Hangs in the Balance!
Hey guys yet another conundrum for you guys. My fuse box on my 74 swingers is well lets just say swinging in the air. The problem is that mounting bracket that is supposed to be there is not DANG :x . I am open to suggestion on how to go about fabricating a new bracket to hang my fuse box on. THOR/Bobby and I have thought about getting some sheet metal making the bracket and then coating it in plastic to prevent grounding. Again I turn to the eternal wisdom of this form to find a way out of this problem.

The original bracket was simply a sheet metal tab on the lower dash. The fuse block was retained by a big Phillips head screw that went through the tab into the fuse block. The body of the fuse block is an insulator so no grounding or shorts occur. I find it quite odd that the mounting tab is missing. If it's truly missing.

Chris,

The plastic fuse box has a slot on the back about 1 1/4 inches wide. Get a light and get down in the driver's side floorboard on your back and look up into the dash on the left side of the steering wheel just above the emergency brake. About four or five inches from the bottom of the dash (you should see a ground wire and screw at the bottom of the dash) is the tab for mounting the fuse box. It actually points up toward the ceiling of the car. Put the slot on the back of the fuse box on the top of the tab and slide it back down towards your face. It should slide on and off easily.

From what I remember that tab does not come off. Hope this helps.

D'oh! That's right. I forgot the later models slip onto the mounting tab. I was thinking of my '66 Dart that used a screw to retain the fuse block.

It's funny my '67 has the 'screw, and the '73-76's had the tab... sure makes it easy when you want to drop the box and change a fuse...

Of course hanging upside-down to look over the fuses under the dash, like a bat, kind of is fun, too...

Ok after taking a look and feeling vary light headed I figured out where the fuse box goes thank you for that. But there is still one thing that is confusing me. There is a small cylindrical component that is still hanging down. I would take a picture of it but I don't have access to a digital camera. The only thing that I can tell you guys about it is that on it I could make out Little Fuse, 12 volt, DOT Flasher. Now I'm new to all of this and any help would help sorry I cant get a pic yet if needed I can try and get it by tuesday.

That would be the flasher for either the turn signals or the 4-way emergency signal. There should be a spring clip somewhere under the dash to hold it.

Ok well it looks like I have some more investigating to do under my dash. Thank you guys for all of the input I really appreciate it. Well for now I AM BAT MAN!!! (As I hang upside down under dash).

It's possible the clip could be missing too. I don't know exactly where to tell you to look but it obviously will be in reach of the leads to which the flasher is attached.
