Hi, A question on how to check the voltage regulator on 71 dart 225. The voltage regulator was not even hooked up in this car nor the ballast. Ballast is ok. I removed the regulator to inspect it ,on the back looks like some wax that has melted and run down the back. It is more likely to be bad ,but still would like to know how to check it. Thanks Fred. |

Yup, if thed potting compound has melted, you'll want a new regulator. Get a good one — Standard/BlueStreak VR-125 or NAPA Echlin VR-38. Testing the regulator per se requires a special tester (check eBay if you really want one), but if the alternator's not charging or not charging correctly, and a full-field test shows the alternator to be OK, then you've narrowed down the trouble to the regulator and/or wiring. |

Thank you for the info to the question. The person who owned the car before us was no relation to a mechanic. little by little were getting the car order. Thanks again. Fred |

I had to replace my regulator. The origional one "melted" before I got the car, and the sticky "glue" stuff is all over the engine comp. and it sticks to EVERYTHING! No way to get it off! |
