Post subject: | Not again!!! Help!! |
Ok guys so I put in a new battery, new alternator a month ago. I disconnected the battery (duh) while replacing the intake/ exhaust manifold and just put on a freshly rebuilt carb. tried to start it and the battery was dead. So I jumped it to give it a boost, nothing...it wont turn. Starter worked like a charm before the operation. I don't think thats it. to me its the battery. Cheap wal mart thing I bought on a whim. Someone please give me an idea of what could be going on. Also not getting gas in the line to the carb. |

Does the starter crank when you connect (jump) the two electrical posts on it? Do the head lights go on? Interior dome light? DD |

hello rawk, Of course Doc is right about shorting the two terminals..BUT! Past that point my feeling is if you don't trace out your voltages you are moving into being a parts replacer instead of a mechanic. Even a $4.00 Harbor Freight VOM and one of the little circuit tracers with a point on one end of a screwdriver-like handle with a light inside the handle, and a clip on the other end will let you learn LOTS about what is going on. Look at the wiring diagram in your FSM, but the starter side is so easy you can visualize it without a VOM...battery ground to ground, battery hot to relay , then to starter, and a line from ignition switch to relay. Jump the relay too. This is the easy electric stuff if you haven't done car electrics before...just make a sketch to suit your self with the battery in and the ign key off, then turn the key on(well run, really) and re measure your voltages. Tell us what ya got. Wires do get disconnected and when you are looking as closely as you will tracing your circuit you can inspect each wire under the hood. rock '64d100 |
