Well I finally got to get a chance to work on my Valiant yesterday. Its been a while with all the house and yard work and all. I still am in the process of rewiring due to PO blunders of removing fusing. I have done most of it before, so yesterday I hooked up the horn, temp sensor (and replaced it), and I got to the power wire. My question is, while under the dash I found a solid black wire with a female end with a rubber boot on it just hanging there. The end kinda looks like the end of the temp sensor wire but with a spade connector instead. It runs up into the fuse box and is connected on the accessory side. I looked through my FSM wiring diagram over and over while tracing the wires. At first I thought it was the accessory wire because its solid black but I ruled that out because that one is already there. I'm just guessing the PO used it for something else that is no longer there. Does anyone have this wire or know of it? Thanks-Dan

I don't think I checked that one! As soon as I get home tonight I'll check that out. Thanks alot SSD! I thought it looked a little to 'factory' to be something that someone just stuck on there. -Dan

Well it wasn't the cigarette lighter wire, it already had one. :? So for the meantime I'll just tape it up until I find out if its for something. The PO had a radio under the seat when I got the car and of course the charred mess. So I'm think he used it for the radio because he left the original one alone. Thanks again -Dan

Well I think I found out what that wire was for. Last night while in my trunk trying to find out why the taillights were acting funny. I looked at my air conditioner (that the PO had removed along with the pump) and noticed on the side of it the plastic is all melted. Then I noticed on the other side it has the same wire connector that is under the dash. I always wondered why they removed the air conditioner controls (DUH!) but I never really looked at it because of all the other issues. So now I'm thinking that it may have shorted out somehow or a combination of things which in turn fried my car. I still haven't looked at the unit real well to see if its repairable (all in good time) but at least I know where that wire goes to, I think...
