| Post subject: | 904 Early, Soft Shifting Please Help!!! |
I just finished my super six upgrade and everything runs great, except my trans shifts WAY too soon and WAY too soft. I looked at several pics, and I thought I hooked the kick down up right, but I need some help please!  I really need my car! Here and Here are some pics of the kick down.One more thing, is it safe to drive my car for a couple of days like this? I only have to drive about 20-25 mi a day, and no roads go over 45 mph. |

did it shift like that before the the SS upgrade? With the engine not running,have a helper hold the throttle at WOT and adjust the trans lever as far rearward as possible. |

It did not shift like that before. It shifted with nice, firm shifts at a good speed. Now, it shifts from 1st to 2nd at 20mph, and into 3rd at 25mph, and the shifts are unusually soft. I can barely feal them.What do you mean by forward? Towards the front of the car? |

Rearward, the trans lever needs to be all the way back toward the rear of the car at WOT. The early and soft shifts mean that the kickdown is not adjusted properly. Do get that straightened out ASAP because it will damage the transmission if you run it that way very long. |

How do you adjust that? loosen the screw on the kick down rod and slide the trans lever back and tighten it? |

Went to adjust the kickdown, and it was already as far back as it could go. So, I put a little "spacer" on it like this. That seemed to fix it. It shifts exactly like it used to. Thanks lincparts, that "mod" that really helped. |

hey it's not pretty but it works! I struggled to make it work,but bieng a daily driver I didn't have "time" to do it "right" With this simple mod it works like it used to. |

Make sure you can still open the throttle all the way...sometimes with spacers like this, you wind up restricting throttle opening. |

I don't want to see flashing lights, so I don't open the throttle all the way that often.

Fair enough, but you may need WFO (stands for "wide open throttle") to get yourself out of an emergency situation on the highway, so make sure you have access to it. |

When I did mine, the rod was a little too short, so I just "lengthened" each bend slightly by bending it out. That gave me the extra 1/2" I needed without disrupting the geometry of the rod.

thats probably what i'll end up doing. Just a little bend here there but not too much to alter the overall shape. This is when i wish there was an aftermartket kickdown rod (not a lokar cable). Seems that it would be easy to manufacture and with super sixes going up in value.... (there was a thread about this)
