I ran the car this past weekend for the 1st time at the Pittsburgh Chrysler Classic. I was running 16.3's - 16.4's all weekend. I ran a 16.21 in the first round of eliminations. I had to run the Mopar orange box because I was having problems with my msd 6al. When the car would shift into 3rd and running somewhere around 5,000 rpm's the mopar box would start to break up. Not a good choice to run on a drag car, but what are you going to do for a last minute repair. Not too bad for only getting the car running on Tuesday night. I also ran the edelbrock 500 carb right out of the box with no adjustments. Again, nothing like waiting for the last minute right? With a little test and tune time this car should run in the low 15's.

Wow, those are some pretty good times. Those late Dusters are heavy cars too. When I weighed my Duster it weighed over 3300#.

Yeah, tell us some of the specifics on your car. Low 16s is really good.

Our '74 Duster (drag only) ran a 15.85 in Valdosta a couple months ago. It's got a mild performance build with a cam, 4 barrel, open headers and 3.91 gears. It weighs about 2,700 with the interior gutted.

Car specs. 1974 Plymouth Duster with full interior & stock gas tank. 1971 225 block with .110 milled off the head, .100 milled off the block. Ported & polished head with 5 angle valve job on the intake, 3 angle valve job on the exhaust. Stock 340 valve springs, hardened valve seats, SI 1.70 intake valves, 1.44 exhaust valves, with teflon seals. Double roller timing chain from Huges Engines, MP 528" lift cam with 284 duration, centerlined at 101.5 degrees. 904 auto trans with MP shift kit, 1979 8 1/4 F Body rear with 4.10 Suregrip. Edelbrock 500 cfm carb, Clifford 4bbl intake, & Clifford long tube headers.

I think low 16's was really good for the 1st time out. I would have been into the 15's if I did not have ignition problems. Forgot to mention I am also running a Midwest 3500 stall converter. I plan on hitting the test & tunes & make some changes to the carb & distributor. Thanks, Brian

I finally had a chance to do some electrical work on the car and get my MSD box working right. I also had to adjust the timing a little. I'm just glad to get rid of the Mopar orange box, never had any luck with those. I planed on taking the car out and running the the flashlight drags this Saturday night, but the weather report is not looking good. Future upgrades will include a full manual valve body, 5 gal. fuel cell, 15" slicks and a diet plan.

I ran the car for the first time this year at the Columbus Chrysler Classic over the weekend. Fridays first run was a 15.7, spun sideways off the line due to tire pressure. 2nd run was a 15.62. Friday night I regapped the plugs to.045 and swapped metering rods. Saturdays first run was a 15.51, after swapping in a new fuel filter due to some junk in my fuel tank. I ran a best of 15.34 on the final time run. The only change I made to the car over the winter was install 18" header extensions.

I just got around to replacing that crappy gas tank with a brand spanking new one. Also added a set of M&H 235/60/14 on the rear and a new tach.
