will drums make a boom sound when you romp on ur brakes if there not working properly in the rear?

If they arent adjusted properly you would more likely hear a slapping sound when the shoe hit the drum.

its not on a a body or anything that old just a cavalier i thought you guys would know better then any body but if i romp on the brakes to hard it results in a loud bang sound :roll: it doesn't feel as if the rear brakes work

When I've heard sounds like that, something was broken allowing movement of the axle, drum w.r.t. the axle or the drum had warped and was not round anymore.

First, I'd check that drum is round - put the parking brake barely on, just enough for a tiny drag, then turn the wheel and see if it's constant through a turn. If that's OK,
I'd look for a cracked U-bolt, spring plate, shock mount, shoe nail, parking brake strut, etc.

i have a feeling it was the exaust system i clamped that up real good but it still does it if i slam on the brakes reaall hard
