Post subject:  shocks...smooth ones...

I am busy replacing the front-end and I figured I may as well replace the shocks in the front/rear while i'm at it. I know the KYB gas-a-just and Edelbrock IAS are reccomended...maybe others?

My car (71 dart) has a front sway bar, 5-leaf rear springs, and .890 torsion bars. I don't want shocks that increase the firmness of my ride, it's already firm enough. What I would really like are just quality 'comfy' shocks that don't give that 'crashy' feeling. Any reccomendations?

Monro-matics are a good shock. First set on my heavy Satellite lasted me over 100K...on my second set now.

KYB Gas-A-Just shocks for our cars suck. You should come drive my Valiant this weekend. 1.04" torsion bars and it rides really well. Actually, I need to beat it down to Vancouver this weekend. PM me a phone number and I'll give you a call.

For a street car with those Tbars, get the Edel IASs. Very nice shock - nice handling and great ride.

I wouldn't put KYBs on a car if looking for smoothness - the ones I have are a bit harsh even with thinner torsion bars.

Come on people! shock names, shocks names! Brands rather...

Aren't the Edelbrock IAS shocks like....$100 each or something?

not quite, but you'll drop $300 for all 4 corners for sure. Here is a link to summit http://preview.tinyurl.com/5xcewz

I just ordered a set of edelbrocks for my 64. the kyb's are nice on smooth curvy roads but on pothole ridden highways they'll beat you to death. monroes are soft but I've installed tons of them and seen lots of them fail early. I prefer kyb's on big heavy cars. they work great on crown vics

Has anyone found a set of Bilsteins that will fit an A-body? The off road ones on my truck are great!

I would stay away from Gabriel shocks. Just got through replacing the Gabriel replacement shocks on my truck. The rubber bushings had failed after only 30K miles on them.
By the way, I went with the Eddy IAS and am very pleased with them.

I believe NewLancerMan has a set of Bilsteins on his car. I think the eddy's ride about the same as my kyb's did but handle much better in the turns. Its like a whole different car. I'm not afraid of it breaking loose anymore. I dont think any set of shocks is going to compensate for the stiff spring rates I'm using.

mine are actually SPAX shocks we obtained on a group buy some time back for about the same price as the AIS shocks. Now they are something like $120/corner so probably not a good option for most people. Lou and a few others here are running them.

Can you say why please? I have a set that I am going to use that are better than my stockers if its worth it.

Aww, man, you've ridden in the car. You know it rides nice with the big torsion bars with the good shocks. The KYBs are just harsh and don't seem to help the road holding.
