Hi all!

Wow, it's amazing what you can find during major engine overhaul...
while cleaning up the oil pan for re-installation we noticed a bright
shiny gouge in the bottom of the pan.

Upon closer inspection of the Scamp, we found the source of the gouge:

Here's a closer view:

Thanks to the seriously dry-rotted and broken rubber in the motor mounts
the engine sank low enough to rest on the steering link, shaving material
away from both of them with every turn of the wheel!!!

I don't know how often the motor mounts should be checked, but if you
haven't looked at them in a while here's a perfect reason to do it!!

BTW, anyone know how often they should be checked??

Thanks all!!!

Yep, that happens. Especially with leakers. Engine oil is not good for motor mounts. Wife's '72 Duster was sawing into the trans cooler line with the crank pulley and fan belt because of a bad passenger's side mount that was eaten up by years of leaking oil. It also put a strain on the rubber fuel hose from the hard line to the fuel pump. If you don't check this stuff every oil change then put it on an annual inspection.

Do they make polyurethane motor mounts? If so I would think that would pretty much solve the problem.

I haven't been directed toward any poly's yet, but if they're manufactured and available for sale I'd sure like a set!!!
