Can someone explain the process of replacing a slant six oil pump? I found a Melling 66C for $20 and am thinking about doing it myself. But I've never done this before. It looks like a couple of bolts, a gasket and putting it in the right spot. Thanks. |

Thats about it,5 bolts(old ones had 6) clean the block real good, use some gasket goo on the pump/gasket(keep it from moving wilst installing).Wouldn't hurt to use some assembly lube on the gear, install in reverse order of removal, pour a little oil in before install an rotate the gear some make sure it's lubed and a bit more after install.I don't use gasket goo on the block side.Good luck |

Not to mention that unless it's in a truck, you will need to undo the motor mounts and raise the engine quite a bit to get clearance to pull it out.... unless the motor is already out. ~THOR~ |

You might want to check with Doc about the drive gear on the new pump most of them are soft and will get chewed up. |
