Hey all, I just left my parts store, and they had a 10" Slant car clutch kit (pp/disc/thr brng/tool) for $150. I just told them it was for a '76 Aspen w/HD clutch. It was a Sachs/Borg-Warner "brute strength" (la de da) kit. According to Doug's clutch article, this should bolt to the stock flywheel and fit inside the 4-speed (OD only?) bellhousing. It was a 3-finger type, and looked like a decent set. I also noticed that it had 9 springs inside the pressure plate. As of now, I plan to use this pp and bearing and a Ford 10" disc from a V8 truck or Mustang on my T5 swap. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Cheers, Lou madsenl@its.caltech.edu |

Good score Lou, is there a number stamped somewhere on the cover? Does it have those recessed mounting ears and small scollops on the outer edge of the plate? Did the list the spring pressure? Sounds like you could slip 3 extra spring into it if needed. DD Quote:

I think I'll run it as delivered first and see how it holds. Just curious, were you running the 9.25" clutch or the 10" when it blew up on you. Any idea what let loose or why? Thanks, Lou madsenl@its.caltech.edu |

I had a 10" come apart, the pressure plate broke-out the mounting points resulting in lots of vibration, bent and broken parts. Look for cracks around those mounting holes. DD |

BTW, I called Valley Clutch (626) 962-8787 in Irsindale, CA, and they can sell me just the pp and throwout (new not rebuilt) for $95, and a 10" Mustang disc new for $44. I bet they would ship. Part # 351525, no stamped number but had the following numbers in white paint - 1672, 08, 27P58. It has a 10" OD, 2" wide friction surface. It has the recessed mounting bolt surfaces and scalloped plate as you mentioned. This is an all new Borg&Beck unit, although they also sell rebuilt ones for about $10 less. It has spots for 3 more springs (has 9), and they said they can stick 3 more in there fairly cheaply. I'm going to try it as is and see how it holds first. I also bought a new V8 Ford Truck/Mustang 10" disc for the T5 - $49. Part # 4184, fits 10 spline X 1 1/16" input shaft - 10" OD, 1.76" wide friction surface. I hesitated to buy a release bearing pending more measurements. Also got a brand new T5 input bearing retainer for $32. Total was $160 and the Mopar release brng will be $28. The woman/manager helping me was very knowledgable and spent at least 1/2 hour with me looking at different parts - very cool place. They do shipping too. (626) 962-8787. They sell other clutch parts too - new forks, bolts, hydro slave cylinders. |
