Needs adjustment most likely. There threaded adjusters inline on the cable going back IIRC, you can simply adjust them up from there. Either that, or your rear brakes need to be drastically adjusted.

Could also be that the cable is broken/missing. Not sure if the 73 cable would swap, but I cant see an reason why it wouldn't.

My '66 had completely different cables than my '76 Duster did under the floor. The ones from the frame into the drums may be interchangeable.

the cables are different lengths in different years/models, and may not interchange easily. I found out the hard way, when I tried to use duster cables in my 1965 plymouth.

If you need to repair your cables, I had good luck with a marine rigging shop. Find out where the sailboaters up there get their rigging done, and they can probably fix the cables for you.

The lever that attaches to the brake shoe that the cable pulls on to set the brake may have become disconnected. This happened to my car when I did not properly crimp the little "C" clip that fixes the lever to the shoe. Yea, it was a dumb guy moment.

Wouldn't hurt to pull the drums and take a look, and readjust the rear shoes.
