I called the machine shop today, they're cleaning and magnafluxing the head and are still in the cleaning step for the block. Apparently the head is cracked in 3 places, and fixable, but they told me it would be cheaper to just find another in better shape.  Theres a wrecking yard down the street from my house that has lots of SL6 heads to choose from. What is the best year for slant six heads? |

If you like the drool tube head then 1968 to 1974 is your pick... preferably 1972-1974 if you want hardened seats (hope they don't grind them away when redoing the valves).If you don't mind using the chevy/BL plugs then 1975-1980 is Ok to, no drool tubes, but you may need to plug the smog port if you find a '447' head with the hole at the back ofthe head. good hunting. -D.Idiot |
