How important is the power supply relay mentioned in Slantsixdan's writeup? The car in question is a '73 Dart. I had not heard about this relay until reading Dan's writeup, and I am wondering how well the conversion will work without it.

The reason why that info was added to the article was exactly because so many people had driveability faults without the relay. It's more on account of our cars' electrical systems than the HEI parts, but you will want to take the extra 15 minutes to add the relay.

hi dan- been following all the messages about the benefits of adding the hei to the slantsix electronic ignition. all comments have been positive, ie gas mileage, power, starting, longevity etc. also noticed that there are plenty of them in gm cars in the junkyards. ergo considering putting onesi n my 76 and 80 sl6s. could you go into more specificity and detail regarding what the power relay is , its installation and why it is needed with the hei. think you said there would be driveability problems without it. the basic point is it gives a hotter , faster spark, right? by the way your vocab lesson was a huge hit with staffers and learners. regards bob fisher
