Slant Six Forum :: Column to console switch

Hi,
I'm thinking of switching the tranny on my son's 73 Valiant from column to console. We are customizing the old 4 door beater into a 2 door and i want to put in buckets and a console. Has anyone else done this swap? What is involved here? How complicated is this? The car is a /6 auto with 904. Any help is appreciated.Thanks,Dan

yow, if you can pull off sectioning a four-door body into a two-door i dont see how converting column to floor shift linkage would be a challenge for you.

You sure youve got the wherewithal to section that body properly? That will entail FAR bigger technical challenges than simple shift linkage modifications. Yikes.

It's easy if you have a donor car to get all the parts. If you don't have the brackets from the donor, you will have to fabricate your own. I've done it both ways. The transmission hump will already have indentations where you need to drill to install the linkage. You will also need the dimensions for locating the shifter console and the mounting brackets, so measure before you pull things apart. If you are working with a donor car, grab the column housing for the floor shift so you can remove all the column linkage and make a neat installation.
