how much would dual exhaust roughly cost for a slant six? I was thinking about it maybe for the future... also, has anybody heard of 4 and 2 duals instead of 3 and 3??? the guy that's working on my car (who knows everything there is to know about slant 6's and other mopar motors) told me not to bother with 3 and 3 cuz 4 and 2 "raps" real nice... I trust his judgement because he used to race sprint cars with slant 6's but I've never even thought of 4 and 2 duals... ??? |

Price is highly dependent upon location and choice of shops. A 4-2 split may sound cool to some, but it's grating (highly annoying) to others and certainly not the best for power. And just because an 'expert' says it doesn't make it true. |

Well, one of the whole points of dual exhaust, especially on a slant six, is to separate the exhaust pulses so the exhaust flow from the cylinders doesn't collide in the manifold and reduce scavenging. Remember, slant sixes fire 1-5-3-6-2-4. Splitting the exhaust inter 1-2-3 and 4-5-6 ensure that the exhaust pulse from 5 won't collide with the pulse from 1, and the exhaust pulse from 6 won't collide with 3, etc... Splitting it 1-2-3-4 and 5-6 is hardly better than stock. If you are going to go through the expense of getting dual exhaust, (a) don't do it just for sound and (b) get the best setup you can. |

Around here, (Charlotte NC) the going price for CUSTOM BENT standard aluminized steel exhaust pipe, is mostly between $15 to $30 per foot of the total exhaust. Depending on the shop, the skill of your fabricator, degree of difficulty, the quality you expect, and how big of a pain in the ass you are, will all effect your rate. The bigger the pipe you run through the smaller the space, the more expensive it is. The more bends you have, and the closer togeather they are, the more expensive it is. The larger the diameter of the pipe is, the more expensive it is. I don't know what kind of car you are working on, but lets look at an example. On my 63 Dart, bending a new "stock" 1.75" pipe from the engine back would be easy, hence cheep. The more I increase the size of the pipe, to say 2" the difficulty and price goes up. If I were to want 2.25" pipe the difficulty and price go up even more. So, you can see that any type of dual setup is not really going to be "cheep" as fitting 2 pipes in is more difficult. Space on an A body is tight, trucks have acres of room, everything else falls somewhere in between. On my 63 Dart, I cut up various 2" pipes from trucks, scraps, and a Volare for my bends and pieced togeather a my exhaust with new straight sections from the engine back. Of course this requires welding and all, but all it cost me was some straight pipe and time with my welder. I see no advantage at all to a 4-2 split set up. Good luck TopHat |
