Ok I have a Very Small alternator from a 89-93ish Full size van / Truck 318 motor. I want to swap it to my slant which has the 72-up Squareback type in the car now.

What Do I need to do in terms of wiring to make this swap work??

I will / can take care of mounting issues.

Thanks for any and all help!

Greg

Nothing, just hook the wires up like your old alternator. A desirable option would be to either add a shunt wire from the alt to the battery, or upsize the existing power wiring.

If you are not using the late model electronic regulator, now, that would be a good upgrade, also.

Well That sounds easy enough!

You also may need to shave some material off either the front or rear of the lower alternator bracket.

Thanks eric, Again Easy Enough!! Fabin' is far easier than Electrical Re-engineering in My opinion.

Thanks, Greg

On my stock 55 amp (or so) alternator, I ran a 10 guage wire with a 14 guage fusable link wire from the output stud to the stud on the relay. You may need an 8 guage wire due to the higher output of a Nippondenso alt. It takes alot of the load off the alt guage. One other thing I did was drill out the bulkhead disconnect where the black charge wire from the alt goes in and also where the red wire to the relay goes out. This eleminates the spade connectors on the bulkhead disconnect. The alt guage is no longer accurate (reads just below the middle line, showing a slight discharge). Let me know if you want more info on what I did.
