I see these on eBay and when I built my last slant powered Duster a few years back I was interested in these as there was some info floating around of a 5-8hp gain. For only $85.00 shipped that seems like a great deal. Of course if this was on a 250 HP race engine I guess it might not be. Looks like an easy install as well. Anyone have experience with these? |

I put them in the same category as a windage tray. If your engine will spend most of it's life above 3500 RPM, then they are worth it. If not, it's a waste of time and money. I have both in my motor in the red car. Scraper came from the guy on E-bag. Tray came from Mike Jeffrey. |

It sounds like if I do either one I might as well do them both? If I only bought one would the windage tray or crank scaper be the better buy? How much are the windage trays? Does Mike Jeffery have a website or do I just contact him through the forum? It doesn't sound like it but are there any adverse effects on using these? Should I run an extra half quart of oil or so? I just worry with both it would 'hold oil' on the top side for split seconds...but maybe they both drain oil back efficient enough? Running both how did you seal your oil pan to the block? |

The scraper and the tray both have adequate drain holes in them. The scraper comes with a spacer for the opposite side pan rail. You do have to use silicon sealer at the ends. Do not add any extra oil. That will kinda defeat the purpose of the tray and scraper. Mike can only be reached by phone. He makes trays and scrapers over the winter and is probably taking orders now. 308/324-3576 I did not know he did scrapers until after I got mine off the Bag, or I would have one of his too. |

For me, it is not the cost of the parts, it is more about the amount of time it takes to correctly install both items. The goal is to get the tray and scraper as close to the rotating parts as possible... without hitting. The closer, the better they do as far as stripping-off oil that is rotating around with the crank assembly. You will need to do a bunch of fit checking and trimming to get the proper fits so if you are worried about doing that kind of work, don't use these parts. I have spent hours getting scrapers and windage trays fitted and installed, then install the pan (with-out the gasket), rotate the crank, just to hear that dreaded "tink" as the crank hits the added parts.... somewhere in there. I guess it would be better to spend the extra money and get the teflon scrapers that literally contact the rotating assembly and wear in "perfectly"? |
