my breather on my valve cover is like smoking i think and you can see small streams of oil going down from it. any help? |

I'd start by checking that your PCV is working OK - if the valve or hose gets plugged up, you can easily build up pressure and blow oil out of every hole. |

No, it's not that you need a new breather. If the PCV system is working and hooked up correctly and you still get a high volume of smoke out the breather, it means your engine is mechanically whipped (excessive blowby). ![]() |

Oh wow! I did a google search for "Slant six breather" and came up with this link. http://www.slantsix.com/UBB/Forum6/HTML/000412.html Sad to say I read about 6 pages of it and it got waaaaay off topic! ![]() But to answer the question, I concur that blow-by will cause the breather to smoke. Did it on my old LTD and it turned out to be a cracked oil ring. |

What Dan said. Do a compression test and see if any cylinders are low....like below 50. Been there, done that, did an engine swap.
