Post subject:  carter bbd vs. weber

I need to get a new carburetor and i was wondering if it would be better to get a weber (not sure which one) or get another bbd? I would like to hear everyones opinion on this. Also would the weber get better acceleration or mpg than the bbd?

Setup: 225w/super six conversion

the Weber will outperform the BBD generally, better response and MPG. If they were not so pricey i'd like one on my super six too.I like my BBD but a progressive Weber would be better (IMHO)

i was looking around and it seems like the 38 DGES might be a good choice.

I love my BBD! gets around 20 mpg city in my Duster. A lot better than my 1920. Ive never even seen a weber on a SS set up though.

Oh, I dunno...
I did like the 38-38 dgas on a super six intake, but it was a lot of tinkering to hook it up the linkage.
The bbd fits as is

Both of them work, but I used the weber because it was easyer to find over here than a bbd in good shape.

The webers are more work to get to work just right, with all kinds of jets and stuff.

I guess I would go for the weber if you have lots of time to learn how they work, and set it up.

But the bbd works well, and is "easy" :? :?

Im running the 32/36 DGEV[?] in my van, I like it alot! The hardest thing was getting it dailed in with jets, I can dail the idle down to 200 RPM but as soon as I put it in drive it conks out which is self explainatory. I spent about 250 for it.

What rear gear ratio are you running?
What type of mileage do you get on trips?
vs around town?

Did you get the weber new? If so, where at?

no i dont have the weber yet. and for the previous post im getting about 17mpg . i drive about 98% freeway. my car is a 4dr 1974 valiant 225 w/ a supersix and bbd. the car has around 300,000 on the original engine. it has never had any internal work just maintenance ( alt, water pump , belts, etc) im using a msd box for spark other than that its stock. And the rear ratio i believe is 2.94, i forget i swapped the old 71/4 for one that i found with 20,000 original miles because it had the higher numerically gears. I couldnt believe this guy found a 69 dart with 20,000 orig. miles, gutted it and made a drag car with it.

Next time I am at pull a part I will look for a 2.2 or 2.5 with a Holley.

I suggest not the holley from 2.2. Chrysler only had 2.5L with TBI only.

Go weber, ebay will have few low miles weber carbs.

Cheers, Wizard

Hey for $10 and don't plug in the wire on the top? Worth a try!

A friend who was a Chrysler tech said it would be good.

I forget where I got mine from, but here a few places I got loaded. http://www.carburetion.com/Weber/weber.htm http://www.redlineweber.com/ http://www.weber-carbs.com/ http://www.racetep.com/weberX.html
If you run a 1bbl mainfold, you will need a the adapter for the manifold. If you have a 2bbl manifold, you will need a adapter to mount carb to manifold. Do some homework before you jump into this. Me with a van, I had to do some modifing to make this work, like I had to use a go cart cable instead of a linkage, also had to get some different throttle componets, etc. to make this work. Do a search here and see what comes up, as this subject has been discussed in the past. Any other Q's, just ask. Good Luck
