I have my "new" 1976 A833 tranny mostly attached to my 1965 225 /6.

Is it common for a couple bolts to be darn near impossible to start once the index pins get seated when doing this conversion?

If so, any wild ideas how to get them started?

Thanks

Did you "chase" thru all the tapped holes with a tap, prior to installation?
Install & "run down" the bolts... but do not tighten, until all the bolts are started.
Grind a point onto the tip of the "hard to start" bolt(s) doing this can help get them started.

Ross,

Dunno how common it is, but I tried three bells when I was doing the swap and all three had the bolts going into the starter side so hard to start I thought they would never go. So I finally "chased" the threads in the bell and used antiseize on the bolts. Tigght still but started right in.

I'm not sure what you mean. The tapped holes in the engine are good - finger runnable. And, as it turned out, the (tapped) ones in the bell went in easily.

The problem with starting the last two bolts is a slight misalignment thing.

I always do the start but don't tighten thing.

I thought about grinding the ends but didn't know if it would help anything. Apparently it will. Thanks.

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by chase. To me it means just run a tap in to make sure the threads are clean. No problem there.

But I have an idea now. Run a tap through the threads on the engine side - from the engine side - so it cuts a trace of thread into the tight side of the unthreaded hole on the bell side. That should get a bolt started.

Thanks

PS. Boy is that 4 speed a close fit in the tunnel. But I didn't have to change anything about the cross member. Bolted right in. I had heard it was a problem.
