On my 62 I noticed today I can see daylight on the passenger side with the door open. I'm looking at the front tire. I suspected it had been hit on that side, I moved the bumper about 1/2" to match it up with the drivers side. My manual doesn't break it down enough to figure out what I'm missing. This is a summer driver. Is it something to worry about or forget about it???
Thanks .

there's a splash pan mounted there to keep road salt off the hinges and rainwater from being forced through the door seal.

I'm going to assume that the fender has to come off to put a replacement piece in and that it's not structual.

no the fender does not have to come off, actually the splashpan has to come off to access a couple bolts IIRC. no it is not structural. that is probably why it was left off, if it didnt rust off on its own.

Thanks, as much weather as the old girl is going to see I don't think I'll worry about it. The condition of the car I would say someone forgot to put something back on. She's pretty much rust free. Most unusual to see in Maine.

If I understand what you're saying, there is a rubber flap that goes in behind the fender to close that gap. The biggest problem with leaving it out is that splash back from the tire will be channelled directly back to the door opening. Even if the door seal doesn't leak the area will collect mud and dirt after every rainfall. I believe Gary Goers has the rubber filler pieces that you need.

OK, you guys got me confused again. I sure wish my manual gave a much better break down so I knew what I was talking about. steponmebbbboom says it might have rusted off and dakight says it rubber. I think I've got a catalog coming from Gary Goers. If that's the case I'll find out some time this winter and might be able to fix it. And what is IIRC???? You guys have to remember I'm a trainee here.

The 60-62 Valiants/Lancers do not have a sheetmetal splash sheild like the 63 up a-bodys have, instead they have a rubber splash sheild or apron.
My 60 and 61 Valiants both were missing the sheilds.I was going to make a set out of aluminum but if Gary Goers has them I may just go that route.

i should have been more clear, the rubber shield is held on with screws or clips that would have rusted away.

Thanks, I feel much better now. The only confusing thing now(it doesn't take much anymore) is I think on the drivers side it's metal. I'll have to go look again after I've had more coffee.
Thanks again.

I went out and checked and it is rubber.
Thanks again, now I've got to wait for my catalog to show up. One more thing to put on the list.
