So today i took the dart to the power wash to spray down the engine bay after doing so and changing out the starter now the car has a horrid miss. I covered all the ele. components the best i could before the bay was sprayed down. If you give the car any kind of load at all it dies. Such as even trying to accelerate forward or reverse in gear. The car stumbles and dies the car will fire up again but its not running as smooth as it was before i did the spray down. I just changed oil on the car which it needed it and also changed the fuel filter. Im going the change the plugs as well later today. I put a different voltage reg and ign box on the car a few days ago because the factory ones were still on the car (30+ years old) and all the rubber/glue on the back of the boxes had melted. Btw the car is a 1976 dart sport 225 slant 6 i picked up last weekend it seems to have been sitting the last 4 years i put 4 gallons of fresh gas in the car.

is there any water around the plugs in the head causing the plugs wires to arc on the head surface?

no im thinking the disb cap may have gotten water in it im going to change the plugs and take off the cap and look inside does the disb. have just a blade on the end like small and big block mopars have or is it a gear?

It's a pinion-drive distributor on the slant-6, but you don't need to pull the distributor. Just put in a new cap and rotor. New set of plug wires and plugs is also a good idea; you'll probably be fine after that unless you got a bunch of water in the carburetor.

this happens every time i power wash a forklift truck. i dont even try to cover the ignition anymore.
what you need to do is blow out the inside of the distributor and distributor cap with compressed air. slide back the plug wire boots or pull them right out one by one, and blast the tower and inside of the wire socket with air. do this on both ends of every plug wire, and the coil wire. blow off the wires where they touch each other. finally, unplug the ignitor box and blow out the terminal plugs. i do this before i even try to restart the machine.

if you do not have access to compressed air, use brake parts cleaner. do not attempt to restart until all traces of cleaner have evaporated or they will ignite. i prefer this to wd-40 because it leaves no residue to collect dust and dirt.

well i changed the plugs tonight they were due i pulled off the cap and rotor and wires there was mosture in the cap so im thinking thats my issue once i change those out i'll have to see if that fixes the issue

if you found moisture in the cap id say thats a definite. post up once you find out

runs a lil better it has one step hotter plugs in the car i put in a set of factory rated plugs champions changed the cap, rotor, plug wires and fuel filter. Next im gonna drain out the fuel and get the carb rebuilt im thinking the old gas is raising hell causing the rough running. I'll post a vid if the car running at idle im sure the valves need adjusting too.

Interesting that it has a Volare/Aspen steering wheel, and Swinger Hubcaps....man ma mopar must have just been aching to be done with A-bodies.


That's a durn nice Sport you have there though! Get those valves adjusted, and I betcha won't hardly be able to tell it's running! My roommates '73 Duster made as much noise as yours at one point in time, I adjusted the valves, and you can't even hardly tell it's running from a foot away, or even if you put your hand on the fender.
