Hey all,

How hard is it to change the chain and gears with the engine in the car?

(I'll also be using a degree wheel when I put it together).

Or should I just pull it out to do the work?

I find it's easier to pull the engine because dealing with the oil pan is so much easier. With an automatic trans car it's easy to leave the trans in place and just pull the engine. I'd hate to try and use a degree wheel in the engine compartment. I also like to clean and paint stuff when I work on it and it's much easier to do a nice job when the engine is out.

I guessed that pulling the engine was going to be the answer. I've had it out once already last year, so it's no big deal.

On the plus side, I can paint my engine compartment while the motor is out!
