Is there any easy way to remove the tem. control lever? My cable broke right at the lever. I'm not as flexable as I used to be. Short of taking the front seat out for more room to move around I couldn't see any way for me to do it.

Old bonez require removal of the front seat. I tried working up under the dash of my Dart with seats in place, no time was saved when one figures in recuperating from a dilapidated back, stiff neck, and general crankiness. I yanked the darn things out, and productivity went way up, while creaking joints & sore muscles went way down.

Besides, it will provide a chance to paint & lube up the seat adjuster tracks, and at this point you are only one seat away from making installing a new carpet real easy while your at it. It's the "while your at its" that get yeah. Oh don't forget to repaint the floor boards while that carpet is out...

Thanks, That "while you're at it" list is getting really long. Mostly under the hood, starting with the radiator coming out and working back from there. You're right about the seat tracks. It's starting to sound like the winter isn't going to be long enough. Sad to say.

No two ways about it, working on components located behind the '60-'62 instrument cluster is a real damnuisance. You pretty much have to resign yourself in this case to either hiring someone with small hands, or removing the cluster altogether.

Dan, Thanks. another thing to put on the winter "To Do" list. The dash is going to have to come apart to see about the printed circuit board. My mechanic traced the dash lights back to the board and quit. I can't afford to pay him to get in there so I guess a test light and I are going to get to know each other. I've got one and know how to turn it on but that's where the knowledge ends. I know I'm going to be asking foolish questions on the Electric Forum this winter.
I found those pictures of your rerouting the heater hoses once and lost it. Where did you post that?? I really like the way you did that. On my Valiant I didn't have enough room to move the horns behind the grill so I just mounted them together in front of the master cylinder. It seemed to give me a little more room on the distributor side and I don't think it looks bad. Not as neat as your but functional. When the radiator comes out this winter I'm going to be very busy moving hoses and generally cleaning up the engine bay.

The pics you're thinking of are here. The silicone heater hose is out there if you do a web search. I've seen it in green and blue. Painting the rad hoses didn't work out; even with flex additive the paint flaked off quickly. '61 Lancers had the horns mounted behind the valence panel under the bumper; that might be a worthwhile place to look into if you feel like relocating them in future. The stock '62 location works fine until it's time to change the oil filter!

I see new '62 IP circuit boards go by on a semi-regular basis on eBay for not too much money, and they can also be successfully repaired. It might be worth your while spending not very much money on the Stockel and Peterson books described here to get (back) up to speed on electrical diagnostics and such. Another really good, basic book specifically on that subject is this one. More detailed how-to can be found here and here.

Dan, You were right again, there was plenty of room under the front fenders behind the bumper to mount the horns. Much cleaner.
