Post subject:  Header clearance problem!

Finally put the motor in today. Went in smooth as butter and looks good. Went to put on the headers and intake only to find out that the rear half of the headers (Clifford shorties) collector empties out right at the starter solenoid. The engine is in a '64 D100 with a 3 on the tree manual trans. I replaced the starter a few years back because the original one crapped out. I'm guessing maybe the original one had a side mounted solenoid? Clifford guaranteed that these headers would fit my truck (my past dealings with Clifford don't give me too much to rely upon their word with...)

I have a starter off of another slant six I had just for parts; it only has 2 mounting holes, as opposed to the truck starter's 3 holes.

Any ideas on what is going on here (either Clifford os wrong or the starter I got a few years back is not the stock style (in terms of solenoid position)?

Also, any ideas on what to do? This is the last thing I have to get on in order to start the motor....

Thanks,
Stephan

Is this the high mount or low mount starter (starter mounted above or below the pan rail)? Most slants have the high starter, but some trucks used the low mount.

Clifford has two different headers, depending on the starter location.

Arggh...Clifford just told me the high starter headers would fit. Guess I should have checked first if I had a high or low starter first (I have a low starter-just learned what the difference was from your post)

I haven't seem low starter headers on Clifford's site for quite a while. I wonder what the chances are that they still make them?

Any suggestions as of what to do now?

The Clifford part number for the low starter headers is/was 55-0020. I would call Clifford and see if they are still available, and try to exchance yours.
