| Post subject: | looking for a DOUBLE ROLLER timing chain |
Looking for a sourse......links, or whatever.Am getting my ducks in a row to get the new engine built.......will order the K1 setup on Monday, will order a crank kit, and have DD do me up a oil pump.Have the crank scraper.....and the cam(will have it sent off to ave polished and parkerised) , so a timing chain is much needed! LOL Also will need a 63/62 oil pan , and pickup......would like to have a spare. Thanks......Andrew/Kidd |

The double roller timing sets are more accurate since they stretch less and they last longer especially under higher loads such as encountered with heavy valve springs, higher output oil pumps and high engine speeds. |

Personally I dont care about any of the bonuses of a double roller set I just want to get a set that doesn't have the nylon gear teeth. All the replacement timing chain sets I have seen have the nylon teeth. :tsk: |

I haven't seen a nylon set for many years. Just about all the replacement "stock" sets have a steel gear.

Boy have I been getting ripped! The last two I bought had them, and when I was looking that was all I could find. Although I just looked at Advanced Auto Parts online shopping and they show a standard Steel cam gear for $16.00 and the set for $24.00. They also show a CompCams 'High Energy' set for $50.00. For only the extra cost of shippingThe double roller seems like a deal. I still have a brand new timing set (with a cam gear with nylon teeth). I'll sell it CHEAP!

Any auto parts store around you should carry the steel sets. Where have you been getting them from? Only place I can think of that might have the nylon sets is a dealership. Hmmmmm... ~THOR~ |

The last two sets I purchased came from Carquest and Advanced Auto Parts respectively. The third set I still have came with the 1972 Demon. |

Just an FYI... There are a number of different materials used for timing set gears and different heat treatments, here is a review: Aluminum hub with nylon teeth top gear. The factory used this design on many different applications over the years. Cast iron cam gear. The factory used a "high nickel content" iron and "flame hardening" for long life. Sintered powder metal. Some aftermarket cam gears are pressed and sintered powder metal. Steel with induction hardened gear teeth. High quality double row, multi-keyway aftermarket gears are made of steel. Many of the low cost, cast iron and powder metal aftermarket gears are made of soft, and/or non-heat-treated material and tend to wear-out quickly, even faster then the factory nylon gears everyone dis-likes. The other thing you may want to consider is keyways in the lower gear for degreeing in your cam.I had that problem and didn't want to modify the cam gear.Rollmaster makes a very good quality gear and chain set and the lower gear has 6 (maybe it was 9) keyways so you can dial it in perfectly.Just my opinion
