Post subject:  Carb Problem

I have a 66 Valiant with a 225 slant 6 and a Holley carb. The car runs fine except when taking off from a dead stop. The car stalls and sometimes dies. It has the original carb and I rebuilt it shortly after I purchased it. The car was having the same problem before the rebuild.

It doesn't seem to matter if the car is cold or hot, it will stall reguardless of the engine temp.

Any ideas ???

The Holley 1920s have a bag of tricks to throw at ya when they get a lot of miles on them; many of these can be worked around. With the engine off, the choke open, and the air cleaner removed, look down the carburetor as you operate the throttle by hand. Do you see a strong shot of gasoline squirted into the centre of the carb from the sidewall each and every time you open the throttle? If not, there's something the matter with your accelerator pump. But there are other problems that can cause this what you describe, too, some of which are not related to the carburetor. Make sure your distributor vacuum advance isn't blown (failed hose and/or ruptured diaphragm). And see the big Holley 1920 operation and repair manual (pdf), and previous threads:
