I'd like to paint the torsion bars that work the hood on my 66 Dart SW a constrasting color to the engine compartment and it would be alot easier off the car. Are these easy to get off? I have an idea using a tiedown strap but I was looking for someone who has done it to give me some advice. |

be CAREFUL ![]() i personally do not think it is worth it. it will probably end up like a lot of the engine pictures you see posted here where someone has spray-bombed every engine part they could easily remove some retarded colour that doesnt belong there. and why call attention to the torsion springs? they really arent that attractive or special to begin with. |

Errr, are ya sure? I mean, it's your car and everything, but this seems like a great deal of work to achieve...what? ![]() |

and again, BEWARE of the stored energy in those springs, they will slice you up and break bones if you make a mistake. |

Dan, Step, thanks for the concern, but the bars were incredibly easy to "untorque". Second, the engine compartment is going to be the body color which is white and I simple want to paint the bars/hinges black like the Radiator support etc. But again thanks for the support and concern Here's the deal. It's a junkyard crusher saved car, so it was already 75% stripped down. It's a PIA to work around this stuff to get the body sanded/primed. It took me all of 5 minutes to loosen the torque and the rollers need to be cleaned/lubed anyway. But again I do totally understand your point believe me. I am very conservative when it comes to paint and usually like stock schemes. |

Got the rods and the hinges primed this weekend. Turns out they must of been Flat black originally as it looked like it when I sanded them. Again thanks for the concern guys |
