| Post subject: | Rocker Arm adjusting screws |
We're using the Clifford 268 cam along with the dual valve spring setup. For now, we've got a NOS shaft and a full det of NOS rockers. Do the stock adjusting screws hold well? I've been looking at the secrew/locknut sets in the Mopar performance catalog. Will the V8 mopar screws fit? Should I be considering them? Thanks, Gilly tlg225ccr@aol.com |

The rockers are some of the most bulletproof parts of the Slant engine. I have never had troubles with rockers with any high-lift cams with big valve springs. I have about 30k on my 0.540" cam with fat springs and I adjust the rockers about every other oil change, but I'm usually spinning this thing to 6000 doing racing too..., Cheers, Lou madsenl@its.caltech.edu |

Can't believe that I'm throwing rocks at Chevy, but changing the rocker arm adjusting nuts on the SB Chevy was one of the first mods I made when using a Mech lifter cam. I had a Duntov 30/30 cam in a 283 that wouldn't hold adjustment worth beans. I have read that the SL6 valve train is good, but these rocker arms just "don't look hi-tech". Two-piece, riveted stamped steel rockers, but yet, they will go 200,000+ miles without failure. The adj'r screw should be somewhat stiff to turn in the rocker arm. If it's only finger-tight stiff, I would suggest going with a different rocker arm. Doc Dodge might have a bit more data on this. Roger GTS225@aol.com |

That said, lets give it a go. : Thanks for saving me the $$ on the adjusting : screws. : Gilly The only things I ever do to the stock SL6 rocker arms is: -Make sure they are oiling out the tips. -Make sure the tips are centered over the valve stem. -On real stiff Valve Spring set-ups, I put a small spot weld at the seam, bottom side of the rocker arm, right where the screw goes through, this keep the screw threat hole from spreading open under heavy loads.
