Any recommendations for a good rebuild kit for a 225? I'm going to rebuild the engine that came from Midi's '64 Dart to replace my oil burner in the Satellite. Most kits I see online include the pistons, which I (hopefully) don't need. I've had good luck with just a deglazing of the cylinders. I do want a new cam shaft and lifters. It looks like the previous owner took good care of the engine, as the head had alot of work done to it (combustion chamber relieved around the valves, new rocker arm assembly, hot tanked, etc), though the bearings where original (from '64) but in good shape. So. Any recommendations? Can I get a kit without the pistons, but everything else that comes in a master rebuild kit?

click me for ebay

Fel-pro gaskets, clevite bearings (rod and main), perfect circle rings, you can specify non-standard ring and bearing sizes, $120 buy it now with $15.30 shipping. Bearings and gaskets only, no cam, lifters, or pistons.
You can probably find a decent cam from a board member though.

Isn't slantzilla selling an old mild purple shaft cam for $125? Yes, he is, $125 new in box. 244*/.436" lift, 28* overlap, 102* centerline. Lash .010"/.020" click here

$250 for a rering kit with an improved cam, then purchse some lifters.

double roller timing set $86.42 plus $15.13 shipping.

$135 (re-ring kit) + $150 (cam plus shipping) + $60 (lifters) + $101.55 (timing set) = $441.55.

So, say $450 all in for various and sundry bits, not too bad. Rent a bottle brush hone and a ridge reamer and you are set.

Thats why the crank is going to a machine shop for the pocket to be opened up.

Thanks Reed.
