Discovered the exhaust manifold was leaking because it was cracked. went to the Jalopy Jungle pick-a-part and took an intake and exhaust manifold off a late 70's pickup. It's got no cracks, and an aluminum 1 bbl intake. Will this be a good thing on the 63 signet? The aluminum intake has an EGR valve, but I figured I could either just leave it unhooked or cut a plate and bolt it on. |

factory EGR blockoff plate p/n 3671 447 from the dealer. No problem running later manifolds, but check that intake carefully. There were several different aluminum intakes. The ones that look just like an iron one except they're made out of aluminum are fine by default. The ones that have a weld bead along the top edges of every runner are prone to warp, crack, and porous welds, so have to be inspected very carefully and encapsulated (e.g. with epoxy). Your '63 choke won't fit properly on the later manifold. Get a #1231 Electric choke kit. It is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions. |
