Just purchased a 66 D100 727 automatic. idiot light is out. I will retrofit a guage? Where do I tap in?
I have no oil to rockers. Are they fed with a hollow bolt? Which one?

Truck has been sitting 10 years. Oil appears clean, no engine knocks, at least, Not Yet.!!

Reverse flush or any other (better) ideas than that.? LOL

BTW, It has a spin on filter, if that matters or not to an answer.

Thanks, Mac

I pulled every rocker bolt out looking for oil passages. None of them had a hollow inside and none of them had a thru passage.

I read the sticky and saw the illistration from Engine Block Oiling System Prep by Doug. I could not determine which area of the head the oil came in from. I read several posts but somehow missed the answer to my question

I admit, I may be hung up on assuming it comes up from a bolt feed of some sort.

Where does this slant 225 get it's oiling to the rockers. ?

Thanks G/6 aka Mac

The rear bolt (one next to the fire wall), the hole is a little bigger than the bolt, and allows oil up into the rocker shaft.

The diagram below show the oil passages.
Remove the rear rocker shaft bolt and the lower rear head bolt and take a coat hanger wire and carb cleaner, to find and clear-out the passages.

Some helpful posts. Thanks guys.

I hooked up the gauge style an got 20 pounds at an idle hot. 32 pounds at twenty five hundred hot.

Ya know what is interesting. Number one is getting rocker oil. the other 10,.. closer to the firewall are dry as all get out.

So now,.. I goota go hunting for a coat hanger. Thanks again, GMac

Keeping the rocker arms in order, remove them and flush out the oil passages with carburetor cleaner, and if needed a fine wire, until carburetor cleaner squirts freely through them.

Than make sure the rocker shaft is clean & free of gunk. When installing the rocker shaft, orientate it so the oil holes are pointing at the valve springs, and the larger hole (If yours has one) on the end of the shaft is located to the rear by the fire wall.

Once the oil passage way from the pump is free flowing per Doc's instructions you will have top end oil flowing.

well do, !! Coat hanger,.. Carb cleaner, I luv it.!!

I have a hunch oiling will clear up just fine with these helpful hints etc.

I set the valves earlier today as I want to do a compression check yet this afternoon. I may have a couple burned valves.

I estimate that four exhaust valves were tight,.. like about 12 thousands instead of 20ish. !! When I reset at .020 they did a little irregular hissin at idle. Whoops,

Compression test coming up, if this sprint cup Nascar race gets goin. GMac

Try some Rislone at each oil change for awhile. That will help flush thing out once your get them unplugged.

Well, I did my compression test. Not good. I average from 95 to 100 pounds on five of them. The sixth is 75 pounds. I squirted some oil on the second go-round and it increase by five pounds.

Where do I go from here. I just want smooth transportation out of it for now. I have another head that looks good. I could do a lapjob on that one. It has the same casting numbers, if I recall corectly. GMac

Hey Doc, Back onto this repair and head change now.

My question is ,.. What does removing the head bolt do. I can see removing the rocker shaft bolt but why the bottom adjacent head bolt as well. ? Gmac

The oil comes-up from the rear cam journal, thru a passageway and into the lower-rear head bolt hole. The oil flows around the head bolt, thru another passage and into the rear rocker shaft tower.

With the head bolt removed, you can run the wire through the passages and see if they are clear.
You can also crank the engine (or start it for a moment) to see if oil is getting into the lower-rear head bolt hole.

Your experience and tips appreciated.

I was able to get a wire post the bolt hole chamber. It probably wenjt int the block another inch and a half.

I cleaned the rocker assembly completely.

It is now together and running sweet. However still no oil up from cam bearing.

I did the bolt removal and ran the engine to verify.

Truck has 40 pounds of oil pressure at fast idle. I still hope to unclog from topside.

I am thinking air pressure using some piping to stop loss of air pressure to other areas.

Possibly hard vacum? (also pipe perfected) I would generously prelube cam bearing after air or vacum if I do.!! Gmac
