I'm finally getting around to assembling my interior(67 cuda ragtop), and I decided to try to get the rear interior lights to work. Some months ago, I traced a ground fault to these lights, and just unplugged them. I unbundled the wires in question (small yellows, pinks), and they looked OK. Then I noticed that the bulb I had replaced the old smashed up bulb with was a single contact base, and there were two contacts in the bulb receptacle. I had an 1157 two-contact bulb on hand, which may work, but i noticed that it also has two filaments (for brake and turn signal). Any opinions whether this will work, or is there a third style of bulb I need to get with two contacts and one filament?

Yes, there are double contact single filament bulbs.

I guess that makes sense, since the lights are in a plastic panel, the ground has to be through a wire rather than the socket to frame.

On my 67' Dart rag top the rear interior lights are housed in the bottom of the rear seat side panel. The sockets have two contacts, I used a #90 bulb.

If I remember correct, your interior lights are hot all the time and grounded by the door switches, or the lights switch. That's why the two contacts for one filament.

The one and only correct bulb for this application is a #1004. An 1157 will not physically fit unless you hamfist it, in which case you will likely damage the socket. A #90 will fit and work, but produces less light.

Ahhh, mood lighting.

FM lists #90 for door, pocket panel, and reading light. #1004 for dome, or C pillar.

Dan there are two of these lights about two inches from the floor, facing the floor in the back seat area on the rag tops, and they provide plenty of ambience.

Oh, okay, thought we were talking about dome/C-pillar.

Pep Boys online has free shipping, order a $0.91 bulb and get free shipping........
