Hi, I stopped by the machine shop Saturday to check on my crank and I've got some pictures of the crank and some of the rod I plan on using. I am adapting a steel 7.1" bb-chevy H-beam connecting rod to my slant race motor, this requires welding the rod journal sides to narrow the journal about 0.200", then regrinding to 2.180 for a 0.020 under chevy bearing. Who welded up your crankshaft? Did you change your stroke? I would like to see some pictures when you get a chance. damuel@kalama.com

Horn Automotive (a local shop) is welding and grinding the crank. I did not change the stroke, not sure how much extra cost would be involved, probably not a lot. These rods will require some sort of block notch, but probably less than an Au rod, or one of the other aftermarket rods available. Mark, What brand are the rods you are using, and where did you get them? This setup sounds alot like what I have been looking for; I want to get some rods that are definately good for 400 HP or so, because I would like to do some HEAVY super/turbo-charging on the motor. I just have to be able to beat my brother in his big-block beating small-block-Chevelle. Hi Mike, Good question...they are supposedly made in a chinese factory, have no markings on them, the box only says CRS-71 (or something like it), and has a panther image on the box. They look like Eagle H-beam rods. I bought mine through Chet Herbert (ad in National Dragster). A friend of mine bought a set of Hughes Engines rods and they look the same as mine, no markings except for a panther image stamped on the beam in ink. Mine have ARP 8740 bolts, his have MSA bolts. They use a cap-screw bolt. I cannot imagine a slant being able to hurt these rods. Let me know if you need more info and I'll try to help out. I too have a crank turned to Chevy size but have done nothing else with it. It didnt cost much more then geting it turned 10 under,I think.
