Ok has anyone had this problem?
I thought I broke off a pin on my gage circuit board because the fuel gage would not work. Well, that idea was shot down since every once in a while the fuel gage will work. Some times i'll start the car and it will come on then it will then stop working as soon as I move the car. Other times it will work for an entire day then quit for a week.
The temp gages always works.
Any one have any ideas what this might be? wire rubbed through?

Maybe the pin for that gauge broke off and makes contact every now and then, I know my lights stopped working every now and then , I would put my hand back at the plug , and it would come on ,let go and it would go off. I eventually unplugged the wiring harness , and a couple of the pins were in the plug ,instead of staying on the board.

Pulling the instrument cluster from my Class-C Dodge motor home left many pins in the plug. :x Thankfully I was able to solder all of them back onto the circuit board and everything worked!

My 67 Dart has the same milady, several pins had burned off the circuit board on the gas gage side. I think your dash cluster is the same as the 67's. I made up a little matching color wire harness with a new six wire male /female connector that replaced the existing connection in the car's harness that fed the six pins. At the gage end of the new harness, I used crimp on eyes that were held in place by the nuts that secure the gages to the board where possible. The other connections I soldered directly on the copper on the board. Just scuff the copper up gently until it is shiny, and used rosin core solder. Check the soldered connection for continuity to make sure it is not a cold joint.

Chrysler was using that type of riveted pins to the PCB till 1990 or so even 1995 in caravans.

Before they burnt off or future problems, I soldered them.

I really don't think it has to do with the pin that fell out. From looking at wjajr's work it was the turn signal pin that broke. That turn signal does not work.

Have you checked contact where the wire goes into the sending unit on the tank?

I pulled it off and put it back on a few times, does that count Lou? The ground strap is indeed connected. If i could just get a bit of that global warming on a weekend i could get out there and follow wores and such but i'm not crawling around with my multi meter when it is this cold.

That's what I meant. That's as much as I've done to get one working, or I've just let them stay broke...

BTW, did you and Dan see the post by Rick Covalt about Hagerstown May 11 weekend? In the thread about races in the East for 2009. Let us know what you think.
