I am rebuilding my a904 tranny and have encountered a problem. The pictures in the manual show a kickdown servo assembly with two springs, a small one and a large one. The servo in my tranny only has one. The small one, and a piston seems to be missing. Did I misplace a part? Or are there different servo's for different years?

It sounds like your servo is fine and that the picture is for a servo from a 727. My book shows a second, relatively small spring and a washer with the note A-727 only. From outside (bottom) to the inside you should have a snap ring, piston rod guide with it's sealing ring, a snap ring, piston rod and the servo piston with 2 sealing rings.

...it does sound like something is missing.

This is all there is:

So is the piston missing?

The ATSG-guide I used for the rebuild is for the 727 and 904, so I figured some parts might not be exactly the same. That's why a photographed almost everything. And a forgot to take a picture of the servo when I took it out :(

It does appear the piston is missing. Are you sure it came out of the case?

So the piston was still in the case? That's good because you wouldn't have 2nd gear without it.
