I've read they are 7/16 - 20. is that right?
Also, why is there a HUGE discrepancy in cost? some go for a buck a piece and some are as much as $40 for a set? will grade 8 or 10 bolts from the depot work or do I have to order and wait for them to show up?

Yeah, that's right. You want shouldered flywheel bolts not fully threaded hardware store stuff. Small block Chevy's use the same bolt so they are easy to find. Try Pioneer 859026.
